South by Southwest - SXSW - is 3 weeks away (sooner if one counts the Interactive and Film programs). As usual for the Music festival, the official side of it will be big, and the unofficial side will be huge. This year, the major buzz will be for Bruce Springsteen, who is presenting the conference keynote. Everyone expects him to also play a show of some kind, maybe with his band to push the upcoming album, or perhaps with his friend and local royalty Alejandro Escovedo. No one knows what or where right now. And when they do, it will be a mob scene.
Here are some websites to help you find out what's going on. Where there are RSVP links, be sure to use them, and also remember to take ID with you.
SXSW Official Music Showcases - The 'grid' of official showcases. Many of these are open to the paying public, though badges and wristbands get priority, and there may well be a line for plebs.
SXSW Official Day Parties - As with showcases, badges take priority, and one often needs to RSVP as well.
Showlist Austin - Probably the most comprehensive listing of unofficial shows.
Do512.com - Another great site listing many unofficial shows, with an RSVP system.
Donewaiting Blog - Lists lots of the day shows.
SXSW Side Party Database - A searchable list of day shows.
Republic of Austin SXSW Party RSVPs - A list of parties with RSVP links.
SXSHHH - All the parties and RSVP links for 5 bucks.
RedGorilla Music Fest - A music festival that runs alongside SXSW.
Heart of Texas Rockfest - And another music festival that runs alongside SXSW.
