First off, a note on Indie Sounds: We do not review CDs or live shows. Coverage of indie musicians tends to follow what we're playing on Harris Radio, though that's not a 100% rule.
Harris Radio welcomes submissions from independent musicians and small labels (please, no small-label wannabe imprints of major labels).
Before submitting, please listen to a podcast or two, or check out the playlists, to determine if your music is a general fit. Sorry, we do not have time to listen to your online music (e.g. on your website or MySpace page) to determine if it will work for the podcast. That is up to you to figure out. If you hear music that sounds like yours, there is a good chance that we'll like it.
By submitting music, you agree to its inclusion in a future Harris Radio podcast. Harris Radio does not pay royalties to songwriters, publishers or performers. Your submission is on the basis that exposure via Harris Radio is beneficial to you. And we truly hope that it will be.
Once your music is included in a podcast, it cannot be removed. However, you are welcome to contact us to let us know not to include your music in future podcasts. Harris Radio may also source your music from various podsafe networks.
You can send music as physical CDs or mp3s. To send mp3s, you can send a link or a .zip file via email, or use a service like YouSendIt or SoundCloud:
Send me your track We much prefer entire albums than just a few focus tracks as we can then make the best selection from our point of view.
Send CDs to:
Pete Harris
Harris Radio
300 N. Lamar Blvd, #323
Austin, TX 78703
Please: (a) include just a CD and a one sheet (b) remove CD wrapping (c) post information to CDDB so that iTunes will recognise the CD and fill in track names (d) try to package it so that we do not need a thermal lance to open the mailer. Also let us know if the CD is available at CD Baby and other online stores (e.g. iTunes, Amazon).
If sending mp3s, encode at a quality of 128K or higher, and set up the ID3 tags to properly identify the track, album, performer, etc. Mp3s with no DRM only please. If you have a one sheet, send that too.
We don't automatically acknowledge receipt of CDs. But feel free to check in to make sure a CD has been received.
If your music is included in a podcast, we will let you know - usually via your Facebook fan page, so you and all can see. Otherwise, we're not able to provide other feedback. If we're interested in covering you in Indie Sounds, we'll also let you know.
We get a lot of CD and mp3 submissions. It can take some time for your music to make it on to a podcast, so thanks in advance for your patience. If it does not make it, that's no reflection at all on your music.
We aim to post around 15-20 songs per podcast (that is way more new songs every month than mainstream radio adds). And we do try to program podcasts where music is complementary, which often means great music is left off. Our apologies in advance.
Please make sure you sign up for the Harris Radio mailing list and that you check out Indie Sounds (NY and Austin) and also Violin Femmes.
